Take 5 - 10/03
It's been a little while since I've been on. I have been more aware of constructivist teaching in class and the students seem to be very receptive to it. My warm-up activities have become much more interesting and the students have come to expect it in class. I have made the activities worth 5 to 10 points. I am very interested in learning about the "responsibility" aspect of Tony Winger's presentation today. So much of Physical Education is being prepared with the correct equipment and clothing. As long as students are prepared, on time and participating they usually end up getting a decent grade in class. I would like to expand on that expectation and separate out different responsibilities such as set-up and clean-up, sportsmanship, and citizenship. I am looking forward to today's class.

Ha! I finally beat Karl on commenting! Andrea, Tony's presentation about grades was one of the most challenging parts of our class for me last year. It was so interesting to hear such a "non-traditional" approach to grading that it really inspired me and knocked me on my can, all at the same time. I made some small changes last year but they didn't really work. I finally feel like I've got a good start this year, but could still do more in terms of how I actually grade the day to day stuff. Let me know what you think after today and we can chat about applying it to PE.

No fair, Cara, I was actually in staff development with Andrea when you posted your comment.
So, Andrea, what are your thoughts after the presentation? I know from your questions to Tony that you were thinking hard about this, and that you probably still have more questions than answers, but I'd love to hear wht your current thinking is.
